I've spent 30 years running businesses, across mining, government, international consulting, and ecommerce. Real projects, real budgets, real teams. Enough of it worked that I could retire early. The CV isn't the point. The wins and the failures taught me the same thing from opposite directions: check the commercial picture before you commit, not after.
The ecommerce ventures are where it got expensive. The clearest one was a physical product I was sure about. I used it myself and assumed everyone else would too, so I ordered 1,000 units before I had a single customer. About 3,000 dollars of stock. Then the costs I hadn't counted, shipping, duties, and fulfilment, ate the money I thought I was making. I spent 3 months on it at 10 hours a day and came out at break even. A minimum wage job would have paid better. The check that would have shown me all of that took an afternoon. I didn't do the check.
